Foraging with Kids by Adele Nozedar is one of my favourite books by one of my favourite authors.
Adele makes learning about wild plants simple and fun. The illustrations are clear, and the descriptions are easy to understand.
Each plant comes with safe activities kids can try, like making simple herbal remedies or crafts. I love how the book gives step-by-step ideas that parents and children can do together.
One of the best foraging books for kids, it’s perfect for turning an ordinary walk into a mini adventure, and it helps kids feel confident exploring nature.
Adele has written several other popular foraging books, including The Hedgerow Handbook.

2. Foraging: The Complete Guide for Kids and Families by Stella and Dane De Luca Mulandiee
Foraging: The Complete Guide for Kids and Families by Stella and Dane De Luca Mulandiee is a fun and easy-to-understand book written for families interested in foraging.
It teaches kids and adults how to find and safely identify wild plants in nature.
You may already know Stella and Dane from their YouTube channel, “Home is Where Our Heart Is”, an amazing resource for learning about plants with your kids.
The book includes simple instructions, bright illustrations, and fun activities.
I love how they’ve included stories about the history of plants and foraging, which makes it a great night-time storybook.

3. Family Foraging by David Hamilton
Family Foraging by David Hamilton is a wonderful book for families wanting to explore the world of wild plants together.
The gorgeous photos on every page make it simple for readers of all ages to identify 30 common plants in the wild.
There are step-by-step instructions on how to safely harvest and prepare your finds, including some delicious recipes like puffball mushroom kebabs, chocolate hazelnut spread, and wild raspberry muffins.
4. KEW: Grow, Forage and Make by Alys Fowler
I’m so happy to discover Grow, Forage and Make by one of my favourite plant people, Alys Fowler!
One of the best foraging books for kids, it contains over 30 activities to do with children.
Alys, an experienced gardener and forager, shows how easy it is to start with simple things like seeds from the kitchen or recycled pots.
Whether it’s sprouting an avocado tree, making wildflower seed paper, or trying fun experiments like growing beetroot in the dark, this book promises plenty of exciting discoveries without needing a big garden or fancy tools.
You may know Alys Fowler from her time as a presenter on the BBC’s Gardeners’ World.
Alys also hosted her own BBC Two series, The Edible Garden, where she showed viewers how to grow food in small urban spaces.
She is the author of several popular books, including The Thrifty Forager, The Edible Garden, and Eat What You Grow.
5. The Grizzly Forager’s Guide to Family Foraging by John Shahabeddin
The Grizzly Forager’s Guide to Family Foraging by John Shahabeddin was released in spring 2025.
Judging from the preview with its gorgeous photos, it looks like this book will be a wonderful introduction to foraging with children.
John is a well-known foraging expert, educator, and creator of The Grizzly Forager online resource, where he shares his family’s adventures in nature with hundreds of thousands of followers. He lives in Northumberland with his wife and two young children.
The book promises to encourage families to slow down, connect with nature, and discover the joy of finding wild food together.
John knows how to share his knowledge in a way that feels approachable, like advice from one parent to another, helping others take those first steps into the world of foraging.

Bonus: i-SPY Wildflowers by i-SPY
i-SPY Wildflowers is a fun, pocket-sized guide perfect for getting kids outdoors and away from screens. It’s packed with colourful photos and interesting facts about over 140 different wildflowers, from bright buttercups to unusual plants like Stinking Iris.
Children can hunt for these flowers, collect points as they spot each one, and learn about where they grow and when they bloom.
Although not a foraging book, it’s a great way to gamify plant identification.
